Matt Stairs
Matt Stairs, of Fredericton, had an outstanding career as a Major League Baseball player. His 23 pinch-hit home runs are a major league record and his 265 career homers, the second-most ever by a Canadian, include six 20-plus seasons. He had 899 runs-batted-in, including two 100-plus years. Stairs was the first New Brunswick player since 1906 to win a World Series while playing for the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies.

He ranks first among Canadian players with most consecutive seasons (11) with 100 or more games played. He holds the MLB record for playing for the greatest number of teams (13) and his 19-year major league career is among the longest by any Canadian player. Stairs is known throughout baseball as a dedicated, hard-working player and team leader.
