Norval McConnell to receive 2026 Community Sport Award

The New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame is pleased to announce that our 2026 Community Sport Award recipient is Norval McConnell of Moncton, NB.
Norval McConnell is a dedicated community volunteer whose longstanding commitment to youth sport throughout southeastern New Brunswick continues to have a lasting impact. Through leadership, mentorship, and advocacy, he has helped create opportunities for young athletes, fostering participation, development, and a strong foundation for sport.
To commemorate Norval’s contributions, the NB Sports Hall of Fame will donate $500 to the Moncton Basketball Association. Additionally, Norval’s contributions will be celebrated on May 23 during our 56th Annual Induction Gala, taking place at the Capitol Theatre. Please click here for details.
Here are just a few of Norval’s contributions:
Ran a youth multi-sport camp every summer for 31 years from 1009 to 2021)
Co-Chair NORCECA Men’s Volleyball Championship / World Championship and Olympic Qualifier September 2026
Co-Ordinator / Director of U 11 Boys Recreation Division Moncton Basketball Association 2022-Present
A member of the 100 men who care that meet once a month and donate monies to charities
Involved in the youth breakfast program at our local schools
Volunteer Basketball Official MKMBA Midget/Juvenile Boys Basketball League 2015-2022
Has served as President, Chair, Treasurer and Organizing Committee roles for Moncton Kiwanis Minor Basketball, Boys High School Hoop Classic, Basketball New Brunswick, Don Grant Ladies University Hoop Classic and Moncton Minor Football Association from 2000-2022.
Coached at least one basketball team every year since 1981 to present
