Biography

The late Mel Murray of Fredericton is considered one of New Brunswick’s most outstanding golfers.For 17 years, he dominated men’s amateur golf in the province.He captured a total of six New Brunswick Men's Player-of-the-Year Awards, four of which were won in consecutive years.A member of the provincial Mid-Amateur team for a record 11 times, he was on the first N.B. squad to win the Canadian Mid-Amateur Championship.As an individual, he was twice runner-up and twice a semi-finalist at Canadian Mid-Amateur championships.Murray was a record eighteen times member of New Brunswick teams at Canadian Amateur and Mid-Amateur championships.He was a ten time Provincial champion, which included three NB Amateur crowns, four Mid-Amateur titles and three more in four-ball competition.He also won seventeen club championships and fourteen invitational events. Murray is an inductee of the Oromocto Sports Wall of Fame and Fredericton Sports Wall of Fame. Enrolled into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, May 28, 2011
