Biography
Jason Peters, a builder of indigenous sports, began his basketball coaching career in Saint John’s east side. Starting with the Minor Basketball Association, Peters went on to coach middle and high school teams. He received a Basketball New Brunswick special merit award in 2012. He was an assistant coach on the NB women’s basketball team at the 2009 Canada Games and later served as the Yukon teams’ head coach at the Canada Summer Games and Arctic Winter Games in 2022. He was instrumental in re-establishing The NB Indian Games in 2010, which garnered immense youth participation. In 2014 and 2017, he served as chef-de-mission for Team New Brunswick at the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) and served as the New Brunswick representative on the NAIG council. He wrote the book “Aboriginal Sports Heroes: Atlantic Canada,” and worked tirelessly to improve the lives of aboriginal New Brunswickers through sport. Jason passed away on Christmas Day, 2022 – his 50th birthday.

· Served as Chef de Mission for Team New Brunswick in 2014, 2017, and 2020 at the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG).
· Served on North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) Council in 2015.
· An instrumental force in recommencing the New Brunswick Indian Summer Games (NBISG) in 2010.
· Served on numerous Boards of Directors including Aboriginal Sport Circle NB, Coach NB, Sport NB, and NB Rugby Union between 2001 and 2020.
· Received a Special Merit Award from Basketball New Brunswick in 2012.
· Wrote “Aboriginal Sport Heroes: Atlantic Canada”
