Biography
In honouring the late Don Norton, New Brunswick pays tribute to an air force navigator who made the supreme sacrifice in 1944, an honour graduate of Mount Allison University, a student leader, baseball, tennis and football player, outstanding skier, superb track and field star and gentleman.But it was in track and field that this native of Milltown was most outstanding.His performance in 1942 in the 220 yard dash and the long jump still stand as native New Brunswick records.Three of his other records in his four year career were broken only as recently as 1966.His alma mater has perpetuated his memory by a memorial plaque, a donation to the university by the member of his class of 1942. Was high point winner at the provincial interscholastic championships in 1938, establishing two records
In 1942 he amassed 27 1/2 points to lead Mount Allison University to victory at the Maritime invitation meet, equaling his record in the 100 yard sprint and establishing a new Maritime mark in the broad jump
He won top honors in the 100 and 200 yard sprints and broad jump at the Canadian inter-services meet in 1942
Member of the St. Stephen-Milltown baseball team as a pitcher in 1938-39
Served as a pilot and killed overseas in 1944
