Biography

Dave Durepos of Fredericton had an amazing 24-year wheelchair basketball career that netted him three Paralympic gold medals and one silver. He was the first New Brunswicker to win gold at the Paralympic Games. At age 20, he suffered a spinal cord injury from a motorcycle accident leaving him a paraplegic. He overcame his injury and went on to become captain of Team Canada and a medalist in the World Championships where he competed five times. He was the first Canadian MVP in the American Wheelchair Basketball League. Durepos is a three-time New Brunswick male athlete of the year and is a member of the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball Hall of Fame. Inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 7, 2014
