In 1990 Greg Morris led his Chatham midget baseball team to its first-ever Canadian championship, -and New Brunswick sport fans cheered, just as they had done so often for this master-coach and his charges. Over a period of 31 years he coached his hockey and baseball teams to more than 50 championships, ranging all the way from mosquito to senior and from provincial to international. Like his mentor, Vance Toner, he instilled in literally hundreds of young athletes an appropriate mix of self-discipline and determination, - traits that were the hallmark of his own playing years. Here is a coach who accepted challenges as they came and then, in record numbers, enjoyed the exhilaration of the well-earned victories that resulted. He lives and coaches by the credo that “. . . if better is possible, then good is not enough.” Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 1, 1991.
