Biography
The late, Luc Bourdon of Shippagan represented his country with pride, passion and determination, winning two gold medals and one silver with Canadian teams in international hockey competition.He was a rising star in the National Hockey League at the time of the accident that claimed his life in 2008.Bourdon spent four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, including time with the Moncton Wildcats.He was a first-round selection by Vancouver Canucks and 10th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.A strong defenceman who could contribute on offence, Bourdon was highly respected by team-mates, family and friends for his character as well as hockey ability.He was a generous anonymous donor to local families who could not afford hockey equipment for their children, a practice that continues to this day through the Luc Bourdon Memorial Fund. Played four seasons in the QMJ Hockey League with three teams: Val-d'Or Foreur (2003 - 2006); the Moncton Wildcats (2006 - 2007) and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (2006 - 2007) for a total of 200 games, earning 88 points with 22 goals and 66 assists
A silver medalist with Team Canada at the 2005 Under 18 World Junior Championships
First round selection by Vancouver Canucks, 10th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft
A double gold medalist with Team Canada at the World Junior Championships of 2006 and 2007
From 2006 to 2008 he played a total of 77 games with the NHL's Vancouver Canucks and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Manitoba Moose
In 2008, after his untimely death, the "Luc Bourdon Memorial Fund" was established continuing his generous support of children in the Shippagan area of New Brunswick
