Biography
New Brunswick has not been noted for producing national golf champions – male or female. One notable exception, however, was Mable Gordon Thomson. Several times a champion in club, provincial and maritime competition, this Saint John native first established herself as the premier lady golfer in Canada in 1902. In the seventy-three years since that memorable victory, her record of four successive National Open Championships has never been equalled. It is therefore only fitting that during this year universally dedicated to women, New Brunswick should recognize her outstanding achievement. Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 7, 1975.
