Biography

Guy Laviolette of Charlo has been involved in cross-country skiing development and competition in New Brunswick for 35 years.He is credited with bringing the first national cross-country skiing championships to the province in 1981 as well as establishing trail systems and starting the first provincial competition.While he demonstrated leadership on boards of Les Aventuriers Ski Club of Charlo from 1977 to the present, Laviolette has also made his presence felt on provincial and national associations.He is an accomplished trail expert who oversaw course development for every Canada Winter Games held in the Maritime Provinces and was also a technical director for national competitions held outside the region.In addition to serving as a technical delegate during numerous national and international events, Laviolette has been honoured provincially and nationally for outstanding volunteer work in his sport. Has overseen course development for every Canada Winter Games held in the Maritime Provinces (Cape Breton '87; Charlottetown '91; Corner Brook '99; Bathurst-Campbellton 2003 and Halifax 2010
Continues to serve as the chief of course for major events as well as working towards an Atlantic Training Centre for the sports of cross-country skiing and biathlon
