Biography

It has been said that, if the will is there, anything is possible.Insofar as the sport of softball in New Brunswick is concerned, that expression should replace the word “will” with the name “George Gillett.” 1979 Pan-American Games gold medallist Sonny Phillips and two-time Canadian all-star Lindsay Tracy are products of the Gillett school of softball excellence that includes teams and leagues from atom to senior. In a year typical of each of the past forty or so, he has coached and managed eight teams, served as president of two leagues, and acted as sport director and/or treasurer of the Hoyt Recreation Council. In that time frame his teams have won 37 provincial and 14 inter-provincial softball championships. Some things just naturally go together; three of these are the community of Hoyt, the sport of softball and the dedication of George Gillett. Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, May 29th, 1993
