Biography
Hermel Volpe of Edmunston is an accomplished archery athlete whose achievements are recognized at the international level. Hermel began as wrestler and weightlifter until an unfortunate work accident redirected his sport career towards archery. In the first few years competing as archer, he started setting records provincially, nationally and internationally. Amongst his athletic accomplishments, Hermel is a 10-time Senior Provincial Champion, a 6-time Canadian Champion, a bronze winner, a Team Captain at the World Team and placed amongst the top 15 at 3 Global Senior Championships. Moreover, Hermel has represented Canada 4 times at World Archery Championships; all of that in only 13 years of competition in archery! His impressive athletic exploits have led him to being named 1997 Male Athlete of the Year by the Canadian Archery Federation. Hermel was inducted into the Edmundston Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.
