Biography

David Smith was the quintessential amateur sport builder - of minor hockey and little league baseball, of this Provincial Hall of Fame, of curling at every level from local to international, and in association with fellow inductee, the late "Ev" Trites, of the extremely successful 1985 Canada Summer Games in his native Saint John. He served as President of the Canadian Curling Association, Vice-President of the Royal Caledonian Club of Scotland, and, among other appointments, as Secretary-Treasurer of the New Brunswick Curling Association for 22 years. He was especially proud of his successes in modifying and improving the rules of the game. He indicated, on the occasion of his election to the CCA Hall of Fame that he "... never was much of a curler…",and that he preferred "... being involved, helping out". Help he did in so many ways on behalf of so many people for so many years. Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 2nd, 1990.
