Biography

William "Bill" Tracy, of Sackville, competed in eight sports in an amazing athletic career that began in 1939. His greatest success came in curling when he participated in four Briers after skipping rinks to the Quebec Men’s championships in the 1950s and ‘60s. He also won two Quebec Mixed curling titles and once curled a perfect game. Tracy was an outstanding hockey player and track and field athlete while at Mount Allison University, where he is considered a sports legend. Tracy also excelled in tennis, golf, rugby, baseball and bowling at university and elsewhere. He is a member of the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame and Sackville Sports Wall of Fame. Tracy, 91 at the time of his induction, continues to curl and to assist young curlers improve their game. Enrolled into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 9, 2012

  • Nominated for curling, but remained active in many sports over his lifetime including: curling, hockey, track and field, tennis, rugby, bowling, golf and baseball 

  • Won the Quebec Provincial Championship four times (1954, 1965, 1966 & 1968) advancing to Brier in each of the four years, with a personal best record of 5-5 in 1965 

  • Inducted into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame in 1993 and into the Sackville Sports Wall of Fame in 1991 

  • Tracy holds an award for the perfect curling game: 1-0 

  • Inducted at the age of 91, Tracy was one of the Hall of Fame’s oldest inductees
