Biography

New Brunswick has etched for itself an enviable record in the world of curling. Some great individual stars, one great team and some illustrious builders have already been admitted to this Hall of Fame.Tonight another Curling Great joins that company in the person of Hampton’s Alan “Dood” MacGowan. 1979 marked the end of 50 years of Macdonald Brier National Championship Competition - the end of an era.It is only fitting then that this ceremony include a man who has devoted all of those 50 years (and a dozen more!) to the promotion and development of The Roaring Game in New Brunswick, in Canada, and in Scotland. He has been honoured before with life memberships in his home club, and in the New Brunswick and Canadian Curling Associations; but his most treasured honour came in 1976 when he was elected to the the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame. This former national president found time to enrich the sports of basketball, rugby and baseball; but, in the final analysis, curling (from school-boy to world-wide) was his life - a life and a world in which he could live forever. Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 2, 1979
