This native of Shediac, like Andrew Gunter, Arnold Parks, Donald White and Robert Kierstead before him, reminds us of New Brunswick's remarkable contribution to the sport of shooting on the national, common-wealth and international scenes. His fifteen national championships; twenty-one appearances at the Bisley competition during his nineteen years as a member of the Canadian Forces shooting team, and two years on the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association team; six Queen’s Medals; four Military World Championships; three Palma Team matches; his Green-Jacket, Morrow, Prince of Wales and Graham Trophy awards; and no fewer than twenty-seven gold medal performances are evidence of his illustrious 40-year career. In recognition of his achievements Warrant Officer Surette was enrolled in the Canadian Forces Sports Hall of Fame in 1991. From his home in Scoudouc he continues to contribute to his sport through his work locally and provincially with the Royal New Brunswick Rifle Association. Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 5th, 1999.
