Mention the name “Buster” Harvey in hockey circles and someone will automatically toss in two other names, - Roly McLenahan and Danny Grant. And why not? All three Fredericton natives are products of the local minor hockey system; all three moved to Ontario in search of experience and fame; all three played professionally for the Detroit Red Wings; and each of the three was the greatest fan of the other two. Buster was drafted in the first round in 1970 by the Minnesota North Stars after a couple of award-winning all-star years with Hamilton’s Junior Red Wings.For the next eight seasons he performed in the National and American Hockey Leagues and is fondly remembered by his host of fans as a gifted performer who combined superb defensive skills with the uncanny ability to score clutch goals. He is one of the great professional hockey players to graduate from Fredericton’s minor hockey system to the N.H.L. Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 6th, 1987.
