John Steele of Rothesay is one of New Brunswick’s finest golfers. He won the 1938 NB Junior title before going overseas during Second World War. After returning, he played on Willingdon Cup teams for National Amateur competitions six times between 1946 to 1956 when he also won the NB-PEI championship. He gave up competitive golf again to raise five children with his wife, Peggy. Upon his return, he represented the province at five Canadian Senior championships. He is the only golfer to win the NB-PEI Junior; the NB-PEI Men’s Amateur and Maritime Senior titles.Steele, still playing and shooting his age at 92, has recorded six holes in one.
