People called him the “Big O,” at least until that nickname was also adopted by a certain stadium in Montréal that may be larger in size but not spirit! His 21 years as a hockey player began in Saint-Joseph under the guidance of Gene LeBlanc. In 1964, he joined the Black Hawks organization in Chicago and embarked on a career that would take him to Buffalo, St. Louis, Dallas and Portland. Hockey great Dennis Hull once said, “The greatest mistake Chicago ever made was trading Phil Esposito; its second greatest mistake was not putting Oscar in its regular centre line-up.” Wherever he played, Oscar was always the most versatile, the star or the best scorer. His name is engraved on 11 championship trophies in hockey, baseball and softball. It also appears on the honour rolls of the Moncton, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick sports halls of fame. Inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame on June 6, 1992.
