The dust jacket of his book, “The First Fifty Years: The Story of the New Brunswick Golf Association” should have had a subtitle: “The Golfing Life and Times of Ralph Costello and Friends.” He played the game for over 54 years, promoted it for half a century, and administered it for 40 of those years.From caddy to team captain, from sportswriter to historian, from club president to national governor, he championed club development, golf scholarships, improved provincial Willingdon Cup team selection procedures, and the enrichment of senior-team competitions. He served as president or chairman of the RCGA, the Canadian Golf Foundation, and the Golf Museum, Library, and Hall of Fame. From caddy shack to Glen Abbey, he held almost as many positions of leadership as there are dimples on a ball or grains in a sand trap. Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 2nd, 1990.
