Biographie
Fredericton’s Marianne Limpert will be remembered as one of Canada’s all-time great swimmers. Her career was marked by Olympic and World Championship glory, world-class results and the admiration of her peers. Marianne represented Canada in three consecutive Olympic Games, beginning in 1992. She recorded top eight finishes in nine events, including a silver medal in the 200-metre individual medley at the 1996 Atlanta Games. On the world stage, she also captured nineteen medals, including seven gold, during her 15-year career. She was chosen as Canada’s flag bearer at the opening ceremonies for the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Malaysia. Marianne’s leadership skills and character are legendary. She was named New Brunswick’s honorary captain of the 2005 Canada Summer Games in Regina and has an annual swim meet at University of New Brunswick named in her honour. Retired from competitive swimming with a first-place finish in the 200-metre individual medley at the Santa Clara International Swim Meet in 2004
In 2005, she was an honorary team captain for Team New Brunswick at the Canada Summer Games
Inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 2007
