Biographie
It has been quite a thirty-five year ride (or skate!) for Saint John’s Debra Fisher.Following an introduction to skating by her father, she grew from competitor to club organizer to elite coach to, in 1998, full-time coach and development coordinator at Calgary’s Olympic Oval!As part of her duties she is responsible for delivering the On the Edge skating program from coast to coast to coast. In 1976 she and her husband Rod launched the Fredericton Speed Skating club with 22 members; today the roster includes more than 200 - the largest and most successful club in New Brunswick.Members have gone on to national teams, world record achievements and Olympic competitions. She has won a rink full of awards but none greater than being named in 2005 to Speed Skating Canada’s Hall of Fame. Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 3rd, 2006

Established the Fredericton Amateur Speed Skating Club in 1976 and served as head coach until 1997
Coached New Brunswick at the 1979, 1983 and 1999 Canada Winter Games
Athletes she has coached include Olympians Mark Lackie, and Stephen Gough; and World record holder, Jeff Scholten
Served as New Brunswick coordinator (speed skating) for the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) from 1976-87
Since 1998 she has been coach and development coordinator at the Olympic Oval in Calgary, but continues to work with New Brunswick skaters and coaches
Has held several volunteer positions with Speed Skate Canada including Director of Coaching Education and Short Track High Performance committee
Currently involved in the delivery of Speed Skate Canada’s elementary school program across Canada
Recognized as New Brunswick’s Coach of the Year in 1989
Elected to Speed Skate Canada Hall of Fame as a builder in 2005
