The year 1986 was a momentous one for the lightweight boxer Léo Noël: it was the year of his induction into the Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame and the Moncton Sports Wall of Fame. This sportsman from Cocagne received the honours 14 years after leaving the ring, where he had been since winning the Maritime Golden Gloves title in 1962. After compiling a perfect (119-0) amateur boxing record, he went on in his professional career to 42 wins, four losses and one draw. His subsequent contribution to youth and sports in Moncton was extensive. It is hardly surprising that the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame proudly adds his name to its list of honoured members. Inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame on June 6, 1987.
