Biographie
Welterweight, Richard O’Brien, is the fourth boxer to be admitted to the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame. This 5’5” Saint John native’s claims to fame cannot be measured as easily in terms of victories as they can in the “fearless” way he took on all comers regardless of size and weight.The new marquees of the 1890’s include his name and those of such prestigious opponents as the original Joe Walcott, Dick Burge and Kid McCoy. In admitting him to the Hall of Fame, New Brunswick honours the second member of the O’Brien family, for his brother, baseball player John J. O’Brien, was enrolled in 1974.
