Biographie

The decade that preceded the on-set of World War II has been described as the golden years of Lightweight and Welterweight professional boxing in Canada. These were the years of Johnny Greco, Dave Castilloux, Gus Mell, Johnny Lifford, Kid Hart, Baby McLeod and Bathurst’s “Kid Lulu” – Paul Doucet. His manager, Jack Carroll, developed a package that was the combination of the classic boxer and windmill fighter - a combination that produced 30 wins (including 15 knock-outs!) in 37 bouts. His was too short a life - only 22 years; and his was too short a boxing career - only four years. But in those years he won three titles - the Maritime and Eastern Canadian Lightweight Championships and the Canadian Junior Welterweight Championship. Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 1st, 1985.
