When a New Brunswick athlete is successful in joining the select circle of the world’s best professional performers, that is news-worthy; when such an event involves the pre-expansion and extremely selective National Hockey League, then it is unique!Sussex High School and (like his hockey predecessors in the Hall of Fame) the City of Moncton gave him his hockey start.After two years of junior and senior play in Montréal, he joined the professional Maroons.Ottawa, Boston, New York, St. Louis and Detroit were other stops in his ten-year uninterrupted professional career.In 1939 he turned in his hockey uniform for that of the Canadian Army.Twenty years later, Lieutenant-Colonel Joe Lamb retired from active service to the golf links, the curling rinks, and the amateur sport executive suites in his adopted Ottawa Valley.Like Gordon Drillon and the Moncton Hawks, he is a New Brunswick hockey immortal. Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 3rd, 1972.
