MEMBRE HONORÉ

Biographie

The Provincial Sports Hall of Fame has honoured only ten individuals and four teams drawn from the sport of basketball - a sport that is played in every school, community centre, vacant lot and drive-way in New Brunswick.Five of these were national/international officials. Moncton’s Don Grant now joins that elite company - as well he should after a 52 year career as a leader of youth and 30 years as a basketball referee. His contributions included his 25 years as a basketball executive, clinician and evaluator, and his work at no fewer than 14 national championships, supplemented by his pioneer work on behalf of Canadian football, and his impact on some 3,000 young people who attended the annual Legion Leadership camps. “His personality,” so said Bill Ritchie, “is infectious, his commitment unparalleled, and his ethics beyond reproach;” to which another admirer added: “…and his hilarious post-game repartee without equal.” Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 1st, 2002.
