Biographie
The cinder track has given way to synthetic surfaces; and the 440-yard dash has been replaced by the 400-metre sprint. But great sprinters are not the products of running surfaces and tape measurements; their greatness emanates from their ability to compete with the objective hands of the stop-watch. Bill Maynes of Saint John excelled at all he tried:he was a Rhodes Scholar, Maritime track champion, honour graduate of St. Francis Xavier University, alumnus of Oxford, and a successful business and community leader. In 1924 he represented Canada in the Games of the VIII Olympiad in Paris, and with his relay teammates, was 4th best in the world. This is a distinction that few can claim in any field of endeavour. Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 7, 1986.
