Sarah Forbes, of Fredericton, began her field hockey career at Fredericton High School. Originally a field player, she later switched to goaltender, a position in which she was a stellar competitor throughout her lengthy career. She was a member of the 1989 Canada Games team, which won a gold medal. During her 16 years on the national team, she competed in 11 international competitions, including three Commonwealth Games and three Pan-American Games, resulting in one silver and three bronze medals. While at York University, she was voted a field hockey all-star, most valuable player, athlete of the year and all-Canadian in field hockey on several occasions. Forbes was a fierce competitor, talented athlete and a role model for aspiring athletes in her sport. Enrolled into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 9, 2012
