MEMBRE HONORÉ

Biographie

They have been called the "Best in the World” and “Canada’s newest rock stars.”These curling cousins (plus one) from Grand Falls accomplished something that only one other New Brunswick team had done before – they won the World Junior Championship in 1998. Skip Melissa McClure, third Nancy Toner, second Brigitte McClure, lead Bethany Toner, coach Lee Toner, and alternate Julie Webb went 9 and 2 in the round robin, then beat Scotland in the semi-final and Japan (decisively) in the final. They honed their skills in high school, Provincial Junior, Canada Games and national competitions. In their “World Championship year” they attended five different universities and, as a result, had to practice mainly on their own and fund their own travel. It worked! Who says elite sport and education don't mix! Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 5th, 2004
