Biographie
Minor hockey and soccer, community recreation, school physical education and university athletics have all been touched by the leadership magic of LeRoy Washburn. And so too have the provincial and national summer and winter games as well as the Special Olympics and the Indian Games. But it is mainly for his contribution to the world of track and field that we honour this native of Blackville and long-time resident of Oromocto. From the Pan-American games in Winnipeg to the Olympics in Montreal, the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh and Edmonton, the World Students Games in Yugoslavia and the World Cup in Montreal, he has served as an official, jury member, clinician and sports ambassador for New Brunswick and Canada with great distinction. Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 4, 1988

Won the overall title at the 1974 NB Track and Field Championships
Officiated track and field at the 1967 Pan-American Games, 1976 Summer Olympics, 1978 and '86 Commonwealth Games and 1979 World Cup
Served as the New Brunswick Track and Field president from 1984-87
Served as the Chef de Mission at the 1987 Word Student Games in the former Yugoslavia
Vice-President of the New Brunswick Special Olympics Association
International technical official at the 1994 Pan American Games and the 1996 Summer Olympics
Coached NB elite paralympic athlete Hal Merrill (shot put, discus and javelin) from 1996-2000
