It is difficult to quantify the real impact of a builder of sports. A builder’s contributions at home may be evident: a new sports team or league, a new field or arena, or a new program or service. But what about this person’s impact at the regional and provincial levels? Eugène LeBlanc of Memramcook Valley is an example of someone whose legacy reaches far and wide. His local history includes amateur competition in hockey, baseball, softball, track and field, tennis and bowling. Add to this his involvement in Sport ’70, the Community Centre and new track and field, soccer and tennis facilities in the Valley area. But his efforts also generated countless benefits that have followed Memramcook Valley residents past and present wherever they have played, competed, lived and contributed. This former school board president, regional sports promoter, athlete and coach, administrator and initiator is honoured as an “outstanding organizer” in New Brunswick. Inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame on June 6, 1992.
