Biographie

Despite a long, glorious and even amazing record of athletic achievement in the sports of basketball, golf and tennis, Dot Brockway still prefers to look on June 19, 1926 as her greatest sporting day. The event was the first ever Maritime Ladies Track Meet; the weather conditions were atrocious. She decided to enter seven events – and this meant that she would have to participate in thirteen heats, semi-finals and finals: When the day was over she was the winner in six events and placed second in the seventh. And, in the process, she earned more points for her team than were earned by all the members of any other team in the competition. The following day the press referred to her as: “The Maritime’s most outstanding lady athlete”. As a teacher and coach, club player and champion, leader and innovator, she has touched and influenced many young lives. And, as a dedicated outdoors-woman, she has shown that sporting success and satisfaction lasts far beyond even one such remarkable day as was hers some 54 years ago next week. Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 7, 1980.
