From his minor sport playing days at Shamrock Park through eight seasons in the CFL with Edmonton, Ottawa, and Vancouver, Saint John’s Chris Skinner exhibited the kind of tenacity that is found only in the great ones. He played at Simonds High School until the sport was dropped; and then at UNB until football suffered a similar fate. So off to Bishop’s University he went and, in due course, a first round draft selection by the Eskimos. Rookie, MVP, and outstanding player awards; all-star selections; a Grey Cup in 1987; 2,850 yards on 570 carries and another 2,874 yards on 278 receptions - these are among his Hall of Fame credentials. Hard work and a single-minded desire to succeed made him, in the words of one reporter, “the best football player ever developed in New Brunswick.” Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 7th, 2003
