Biographie
Bob Stanton, a Fredericton-based softball umpire, has had an illustrious career. He has been inducted into several halls of fame, including the International Softball Federation/World Baseball Softball Confederation, New Brunswick, and Canadian Softball Halls of Fame, as well as the Fredericton Sports Wall of Fame. Stanton has umpired in over 40 provincial championship tournaments and supervised umpires in 25 others. He has also umpired in 15 Eastern Canadian tournaments and supervised in five more. Additionally, he has umpired in eight Canadian Championships and supervised in ten more. Stanton has served as Umpire in Chief at three Pan American Games and has been the umpire in chief for over 25 World Championships from 2006 to 2022. He was named Softball Canada's Umpire of the Year in 1998, and Sport New Brunswick's Official of the Year in 2001. Stanton was the first Canadian to serve as director of umpires for the 128-country International Softball Federation/World Baseball Softball Confederation. He also served as the supervisor of umpires at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China and the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Stanton is well known for his commitment to the development and advancement of softball.
Inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame June 10, 2023.
