Biographie

Throughout the Americas and over in Europe, Yvon Durelle, the legendary “Fighting Fisherman” from Baie Sainte-Anne, took to the ring for a total of 107 fights over a period of 11 years, with 84 wins including 43 knockouts. His adversaries were many of the greatest names in boxing, among them Floyd Patterson and Tony Anthony. Light heavyweight champion of both Canada and the British Empire, he created excitement everywhere his gloves took him. Yvon came within moments of a world title, knocking champion Archie Moore to the canvas three different times in the early rounds of their famous fight on December 10, 1958. Yvon Durelle’s career is one of the most inspiring chapters in the history of sports in New Brunswick. Inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame on May 22, 1971.
