Biographie

What a journey! From Midland to Moncton to St. John’s and Turin. The first ever New Brunswick resident to win Olympic gold in either the winter or summer games! Like his Newfoundland team-mates- Brad Gushue, Mark Nichols, Mike Adam and Jamie Korab, his goal was to occupy centre spot on the podium. As they liked to say, “Their goal was gold!” Telegraph-Journal sports writer Peter McGuire put it this way: “That’s New Brunswick’s Russ Howard, thank you very much!” Out of deference to his new skip he put the Howard rant on hold save for the occasional use of his signature “Hurry … hurry hard.” Twenty-five championships including two Canadian, two World and seven New Brunswick titles, thirteen appearances at the Brier, and, best of all, Olympic Gold ! He’s been called the "Curler of the Century” and the “Best Curler Ever” as one reviews his 30-year career. He’s still Canada’s and now he’s also ours! Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 3rd, 2006
