Biographie
When a group of hometown players gathered in the fall of 1972, they never imagined that, by the time the season ended, they would be Canadian champions and the first local team to win a national hockey title. They were the Saint John Mooseheads, who skated into city, provincial and national hockey history books when they hoisted the Hardy Cup – symbolic of Canadian intermediate supremacy –in April of 1973. After finishing second in the Southern New Brunswick league season, the unheralded team went on an amazing playoff run, winning six series, including defeating division powerhouses Embrun, Ont. and Rosetown, Sask. in exciting games played before packed houses at the Lord Beaverbrook Rink. Mere statistics do not tell the story of how this amazing group of homegrown athletes – with a few playoff additions to replace injured players -- captured the hearts of its fans in the process. Already inducted into the Saint John Sports Hall of Fame, they had a magical season that will not be forgotten. Inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, May 31, 2008.

Won the 1973 Hardy Cup, becoming only the third New Brunswick team to win the Championship.
The Mooseheads ended the regular season with a 13-9-0 record, which placed them second in the provincial league.
During the playoffs they won six series, including defeating Embrun, Ontario and Rosetown, Saskatchewan.
