Grand Falls’ “Red” Ouellette used to dream of one day coaching a professional hockey team.He’d been well-schooled by the likes of Wren Blair, Milt Schmidt, Fred Shero and others. He had the leadership ability to succeed as a coach, – a fact he proved when he led the Campbellton Tigers to three Hardy Cup championships. He came by that ability the old fashioned way, - he earned it!During his 12-year career in the Eastern, Central, American and National Hockey Leagues, his name and statistics were consistently at or near the top in the scoring races regardless of league or team. In 1971, he accepted a position as Campbellton’s Sports Director.He gave up scoring goals and assists in favour of serving as the ideal role model for athletes of all ages in his adopted home town.
