When fans reflect on what many consider to be “the golden years of baseball” in New Brunswick, their thoughts turn to those great St. Stephen – Milltown teams of 1931 – 39.But, when the talk gets around to individual ball players, the name that most often dominates the conversation is that of Saint John’s “Quip” Moore. It’s a shame that this “best ever outfielder” never did join the line-up of those amateur champion border teams.He opted instead for a professional career. His superb throwing arm and speed of foot caused him to be compared by one scribe to the Yankee Clipper, Joe DiMaggio.But his thundering bat and R.B.I. records reminded one more of that other Yankee idol of his, Babe Ruth. In the field or at bat, this “Quip” was no joke! Enrolled in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, June 6, 1987.
