Biographie

Everett Sanipass is a Migmaq of Elsipogtog. At a young age, with the support of his family and community, he began his hockey career in Richibucto, N.B. In Midget he played for the Moncton “AAA” Flyers.He went on to play in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he competed in the 1985 Memorial Cup. Sanipass was chosen to play on Team Canada in Czechoslovakia, for the 1987 World Junior Hockey Championship.He then became the pride of his people when he was drafted 14th overall, in the NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks.In 1991 he was traded to the Quebec Nordiques. He has become a role model for young aboriginal athletes. Sanipass is the first individual of First Nation descent to be inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame.
