Debra Fisher

 

  • Established the Fredericton Amateur Speed Skating Club in 1976 and served as head coach until 1997
  • Coached New Brunswick at the 1979, 1983 and 1999 Canada Winter Games
  • Athletes she coached include Olympians Mark Lackie (1992) and Stephen Gough (1994), and Jeff Scholten World 500 M record holder
  • Served as New Brunswick coordinator (speed skating) for the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) from 1976-87
  • Since 1998 she has been coach and development coordinator at the Olympic Oval in Calgary, but continues to work with New Brunswick skaters and coaches
  • Has held several volunteer positions with Speed Skate Canada including Director of Coaching Education and Short Track High Performance committee
  • Currently involved in the delivery of Speed Skate Canada’s elementary school program across Canada
  • Recognized as New Brunswick’s Coach of the Year in 1989
  • Elected to Speed Skate Canada Hall of Fame as a builder in 2005
